CTC (Lancaster & South Lakes)

The local branch of the UK’s national cyclists’ organisation

We are an active bunch of cyclists living in and around Lancaster bound together by our love of cycling. Our varied programme of rides are organised for pleasure not speed, and take maximum advantage of the glorious countryside on our doorstep. Each Sunday we start from either Beaumont College on the north side of Lancaster or opposite the Boot and Shoe pub on south side of Lancaster. Some cyclists ride to the coffee stop and then return home. On the complete ride we usually eat our own packed lunches. And often call at a café for tea on the way home.

Though some ride only in this area others take cycle touring holidays. Many of us take advantage of our national club’s organised tours throughout the world and our winter social meetings have included members’ slides from every continent.

Garstang Cycling Club

The friendly club for cyclists of all abilities.

The Garstang Cycling Club was formed in July 2003, making it one of the youngest cycling clubs in the area. We now have over 70 members, about a third of them female with an age range from 15 to over 70. The aim of the club is to encourage cyclists of all ages and abilities to dust down their bikes and come and explore the local countryside in the company of like minded others. We have members ranging from those new to cycling to time trialists and at least one high ranking triathlete.

Being a young club we do not organise racing events ourselves but members take part in open events around the region. We place great emphasis on safety and have a ‘Code of Conduct’ which is consistent with our affiliation to the British Cycling Federation. All our ride leaders are volunteers and it is expected that each rider must take responsibility for their own safety and the roadworthiness of their bike.

Salt Ayre Cog Set (Go Ride)

Lancaster’s very own young peoples’ cycling club…

In partnership with local cycling clubs, Cog Set is a club for young people aged from 8 to 16 (under 8s can also take part, but need a parent to stay with them).  We meet weekly at Salt Ayre cycle racing circuit, and all sessions are run by qualified British Cycling coaches.  The young people mainly ride in groups according to their ability, and practice a whole range of cycling skills whilst having fun.

All you need to join in is a bike which works and a helmet. Sessions cost just £1 and usually run from 09:45 to 12 noon at Salt Ayre Cycle Racing Circuit from Spring to late Autumn.

Kendal District Cycling Scene

The group actively promotes cycling for work, shopping, school and leisure. We organise a regular programme of leisure rides at weekends and on summer evenings usually within the Kendal area. The rides vary in length from 15 miles to 45 miles (occasionally longer).

Cycling is not just practical, not just a pastime, not just a passion – it is a perfect partnership. It is sustainable. It is satisfying. It is an ideal social activity. We aim to promote the wide benefits of cycling accordingly by campaigning, meetings, slideshows, leisure rides and other events.

Lancashire Road Club

Formed in 1923 the Lancashire Road Club is a cycling club based in Bolton.  We currently have around 100 active members taking part in all aspects of cycling – road racing, time trials, track racing mtb, cross and triathlons. Members also tour and cycle-camp around the world and organise cycling holidays for other members. In addition there are club rides throughout the year every Sunday & training rides through winter.

Club rides are every Sunday all year round starting from the Royal Oak pub, these cover between 60 and 100 miles depending on the destination and always stop for a cafe around dinner time. The winter training rides start in December and continue through to the start of the racing season. Both club and training rides are social, the training rides are just a tiny bit quicker with fewer stops. Toward the start of the racing season (March) these rides get faster. The club also organises time trials, track evenings at Manchester Velodrome and many social events.

Lancashire Road Club is a club for anyone who enjoys riding a bike, for whatever reason. With such a large and varied membership there is always someone to ride with.

Twenty Club

Conceived in 2009 as part of the Celebrating Cycling’s Bike Week celebration as a mid way point between social and club rides – the 20Club goes from strength to strength. The original aim of twenty mile rides may have been surpassed but the original ethos remains the same.

All welcome – however please note that these rides are likely to involve some or all of the following: hills, on-road riding. Road bike not essential but please ensure that your bike is in good condition. These rides are at a faster pace -perhaps not club fast, but not 10mph either. These are not guided rides – cyclists ride at their own risk.

Any questions please get in touch at [email protected] or follow us on twitter at http://twitter.com/lancaster20club

Times of rides are 10am on Saturdays meeting at Millenium Bridge (October – March) reverting to Thursday evenings in the spring/summer.
