Lancaster City Council's Celebrating Cycling Team is encouraging local ladies to get on their bikes this summer with a number of events to help them on their way.

On Saturday, 24 July the team is holding a 'Women on Wheels' day at the Dukes in Lancaster.

The event will offer information and advice to ladies who are new to cycling and the opportunity to take part in free cycle maintenance courses.  Refreshments and  cycling goodie bags will also be available on the day. To book your place on one of these free and useful courses, please contact Pedal Power on 01524 65328.

A week later on Saturday 31 July, the team has organised a women only beginners cycle training session from 1-3pm at Salt Ayre Sports Centre.  This session which will take place in a safe, traffic-free environment and aimed at those who can’t cycle or lack confidence in their cycling skills.

Meanwhile the Women on Wheels rides continue to take place on the first Sunday of every month giving ladies the opportunity to discover the district by bike. On Sunday 4 July the gentle 'Brief Encounters' ride will take cyclists along the canal to Carnforth followed by a 'challenge' ride to Hornby and Gressingham on Sunday 1 August.

Riders should meet at the Millennium Bridge, Lancaster at 11am. No need to book - just turn up!
