BOOK NOW to Cycle away the summer holidays

With the summer holidays fast approaching, Lancaster City Council is encouraging youngsters to get out on their bikes with a range of fun training sessions for all ages and abilities.
 
Cycling is healthy and fun, but it’s best to learn how to do it safely.  As part of the council’s Holiday Activity Programme, a range of cycling courses for children and families are running throughout August and will take place at Salt Ayre Sports Centre.

Way of the Roses

You are invited to sample the first stage of a brand new coast to coast cycle route – The Way of the Roses - on Saturday July 10.
 
The Way of the Roses is a brand new 180 mile route linking Morecambe with Bridlington which is due to open in September 2010 (watch this space for more info).  The route has been developed by a partnership of organisations led by cycling charity Sustrans.
 
Cyclists are being given the opportunity to ride the first 35 miles of the route from Morecambe to Settle.  This is mainly along quiet lanes and country roads will take around three hours.  Hot drinks and return transport to Lancaster are included if required. 
 
The ride, in partnership with the Forest of Bowland, starts at 10.30am on Morecambe Promenade.  For more information click here
 
  

Women on Wheels - July

We've got lots planned for this month kicking off with a WoW ride to Carnforth on the 4th and ending with a beginner's training session at Salt Ayre on Saturday 31st.

2010 Bike Week

Saturday June 19th to Sunday June 27thBike Week 2010
 
We've got a fantastic range of events for you to get involved with during this year's Bike Week.  The week is an opportunity to show how cycling can be part of everyday life.
 
There's lots going on including:

  • Bike to Work Days at various local employers
  • Breakfast on the Bridge
  • Evening Bike Ride
  • Bike Maintenance for Women
  • A Sunday in Bowland

4th Party on the Prom

Sunday May 9th from 11am
 
Come along to Morecambe Prom (by the Dome) to join in the fun!
 
There will be lots to see and do for the whole family including:
  • Bike Tryouts and pedal powered Scalextric with Get Cycling
  • amazing stunts from the local trial display team
  • let Dr Bike look after your bike
  • visit the big yellow DHL truck for useful advice on interaction between cyclists and HGVs - and sit in the cab!

Young People's Festival

YP FestivalYP'10 is an exciting new free event for young people in Lancaster District aged 11 – 19.

Come along and take part in the wide variety of free activities that will be on offer, watch some demonstrations and showcases from local groups of young people and enjoy music performances from local young performers.

This is the chance to try, free of charge, a wide range of activities that already take place in the local area, some that you may never have tried before as well as some old favourites.

Bike the Bay Smartypants Challenge

A 5 mile family fun bike ride along Morecambe Prom in aid of CancerCare finishing at Happy Mount Park with an Easter Extravaganza.  
 
Fancy dress riders and bikes welcomed – there will be a prize for the best outfit.
 
£5 to enter per adult – kids ride free (2 per adult).
Starts 10am VVV Health Club
 
 

Women on Wheels 2010

This year WoW rides will run every first Sunday of the month at 11am from the Millennium Bridge. We've also added a few more challenging rides.
