Mission Impossible 7 … EXTRA £250 prize for anyone under 7 minutes!

It’s only a hill … it’s only 1.75 miles long … it even has a short downhill section.

In 2009 Tejvan Pettinger took 10 seconds off the previous record to make the climb in a new record of 7 minutes 13 seconds.

But is it humanly possible to make the climb from Quernmore junction to Jubilee Tower in under 7 minutes, or would that be “mission impossible”?

I heard it from good authority that when a young, fresh-faced Ben Greenwood took the record at 7 minutes 23 some years ago he thought that 7 minutes was not out of the question, and at least two others have said it should be within their means.

So, this year Lancaster Cycling Club is putting up a massive extra prize of £250 (in addition to the normal prizes) for any rider who can complete the Jubilee Tower Open Hill Climb in under 7 minutes. If no one goes under 7 minutes this year, the prize will be offered again next year, and until someone manages it!

This prize is being sponsored by Lancaster’s very own The Edge Cycleworks, one of the best places locally to get a whole range of cycling goodies! Lancaster Cycling Club is very grateful to The Edge for making this very generous prize available.

Entrants must be members of CTT-affiliated club.
Entries (on CTT entry form), along with entry fee of £6.00 should be sent to the organiser:
Alistair Hodge, Carnegie House, Chatsworth Road, Lancaster, LA1 4SL. Telephone 07889 288452.
