Cycle to Work Guarantee

Cycle to Work Guarantee

In October 2009 the Government introduced the Cycle to Work Guarantee which aims to encourage employers to make it easy for their employees to cycle to and from work. It is a voluntary guarantee which signals an organisation's intention to become a cycle-friendly employer. Organisations that sign up to the Guarantee will be listed on the National Business Travel Network website where employees can see if their employers offer the Guarantee. Note this is a voluntary commitment and there will be no formal enforcement.

By signing up to the Guarantee, an organisation is demonstrating commitment to delivering the following:
  • Secure, safe, and accessible bike parking facilities for all staff who want them
  • Good quality changing and locker facilities for all staff who want them
  • Offset the cost of cycling equipment and save on the tax through the ‘Cycle to Work scheme’
  • Bike repair for cyclists on or near site
  • Training, reward and incentive programmes to achieve targets for more cycling
Lancaster City Council is one of the 70 organisations nationally to have signed up to the Guarantee at launch.  We'd like to encourage more organisations within the District to sign up the Guarantee and can offer help and advice to ensure you meet the criteria.

Local Employers who have signed up to the Cycle to Work Guarantee include:

Lancashire County Council
Lancaster and Morecambe College
NHS North LancashireUniversity Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Trust
