Local Champions

Q&A with Ben Slinger (Age 20) - Champion Trial Rider

Where were you born and where do you live now ?
I was born in Lancaster, England. I still live in Lancaster, I can't complain though! There's lots of places to train in this area.

How long have you been riding trials?
I started riding trials back in 2000, which is 8 years now!

How did you get into trials?
I got into trials after watching some local riders trying to get up walls and benches, I joined in and after 2 years I started competing.

What is your best achievement to date?
Back in 2005 I became both Junior 20" and 26" World Champion, that's two competitions on two different sized bikes in the same day! I am the first person ever to do this from the UK.

What are your goals in 2008?
I would like to come in the top 8 in the Elite World championship, Elite is everyone over 19 competing in the same category. I would also like to do more displays in schools to try and involve new young riders to the sport.

Who are your most influential riders?
I love to watch Giacomo Coustellier, a former Elite World champion. He has such a smooth flowing style.

Where is your favourite place to ride?
I think my favourite place of all time would have to be Buthiers, France. Located South of Paris near Fontainbleu. There are thousands of huge boulders which makes for an amazing training area.

Who are your sponsors?
My sponsors for 2008 are:
Atomz Bikes
Ribo Shoes
Tartybikes
S & W Fabrications
