Cycling to University / College

It's Quick

It's Cheap

It's Fun

It's Healthy

Many students live within easy commuting distance of college and with greater restrictions placed on car parking and the cost of public transport - cycling to college or university is a sensible decision to make.

All 3 further and higher eucation establishments in the Lancaster district are partners in our Celebrating Cycling project (see Cycling to Work section) and as such are taking steps to encourage and enable cycling to their sites - from increasing and improving cycle parking to providing cheap equipment and bikes.

GreenLancaster

GreenLancaster is now selling second-hand recycled bikes to students and staff at the University. Priced at £50, £75 or £100, they are a fantastic way of getting around town and exploring the local area. Pick one up now from the Hub! You’ll need to be quick though, they’re selling faster than… fast bikes??

The bikes are reconditioned by Pedal Power, a project of Furniture Matters, a recycling charity based in Lancaster. They repair and revamp a variety of men’s and ladies’ bikes that have been abandoned or handed into them, and GreenLancaster then sells them on from their base on campus.

Bike to Bailrigg

In association with Lancaster University we have produced a flyer called 'A Student's Guide to Cycling at Lancaster University'.

This handy guide gives a brief outline to cycling to / from the University including information on the local network, getting a bike, special offers for local students and where to find out more.

We have also recently produced a handy guide to cycling from Chancellor's Wharf to Lancaster University along the newly re-surfaced canal towpath.
Hard copies are available in Chancellor's Wharf or download flyer here (pdf).
