Cycling isn't just for lycra-clad sports fanatics... look around you you're bound to see plenty of people on their way to work dressed in normal clothes and cycling at an average speed. You don't even need to be particularly fit but the more you cycle the fitter you're likely to become.

Bike Buddy / Cycle training

Ever thought about cycling to work but lack confidence? Confused about equipment? Need a little support in getting started? Unsure of the best route to take? If so, then the Bike Buddy Scheme could be right up your street!

The new Bike Buddy Scheme is a FREE service for local residents to help new and returning cyclists to get to grips with cycling by helping them to find a suitable route from their home to work.
We can also offer local residents free 1-2-1 (or small group) cycle training at all levels from beginner to advanced.

Discounted Cycle Loan & Purchase

To promote cycle commuting the government has introduced tax exemptions for employers to loan cycles & equipment as tax-free benefits.

Cycle Mileage

Employers can pay up to 20 pence per mile (tax free) to employees who use their own cycles for business travel. Journeys between home and work are not classed as business travel.

If an employer doesn't pay bicycle allowance then employees can claim tax relief on 20p per business mile, or on the balance up to 20p per mile if the employer pays less than this rate. Employers can, if they wish, pay mileage at a higher rate but this will not be tax free.
