Family Cycling leaflet

New for 2010 - this leaflet aims to show families how a bike ride together can be fun, rewarding, interesting and best of all its free.

‘Family Cycling in the Lancaster District’ is full of top tips and information to get your family on the move.
 
There is advice on what equipment you will need, routes to try and where you can receive training to improve your skills, fix your bike and build your confidence on the roads.
If that isn’t enough to inspire you to get on the cycle track, there is encouragement from others who have been there and done it.

Cycling for All Guide (2)

Cycling for All 2

New for Summer 2009 - Cycle for All (2) provides riders with at-a-glance information on eight great rides ranging from 20-34 miles.

Featuring stunning photography by Jon Sparks and using his experience as a writer of guides for both ramblers and cyclists, the guide takes cyclists from the bustling heart of the city to the edge of the Bowland Hills, the wide-open country surrounding Pilling and many more rides which offer fantastic views at every turn including the three peaks in Yorkshire.

All rides should be suitable for anyone with a bit of cycling experience. Some can be enjoyed on all types of bike whilst others are best tackled on a mountain bike (although tarmac alternatives are provided for these).

NEW City, Coast & Countryside Circuit

Lancaster - Morecambe Promenade - Hest Bank - Lancaster

Recent improvements to the district's cycle network which include a new toucan crossing connecting Morecambe promenade to the new shared use path on Coastal Road, Morecambe and Lancaster Canal have opened up a new 11 mile off-road cycle route.

Cyclists can now reach the canal from the promenade, by crossing Coastal Road using the new toucan crossing by VVV. Then continuing up Coastal Road using the new shared use paths - the canal can be accessed at the bottom of Rushley Drive - the first right turn off the path.

Cycling for All

Cycling for all route guide front coverIf you fancy taking your friends and family on a cycle ride this summer but are not sure of the routes available in the district then you need Cycling for All.
 
This handy pocket sized colour guide lists 6 illustrated routes that are suitable for all.   All start at the Millennium bridge in lancaster are some are all on traffic free paths.  Distances vary from 8 - 16 miles.

Cycle & See front cover5 circular rides (11 - 26 miles) between Kirkby Lonsdale and Arnside.
The Arnside & Silverdale Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) is on the smallest in England. Nevertheless it has a rich mixture of contrasting countryside from salt marsh & mixed broadleaf woodlands to limestone cliffs and lush grasslands.

Preston to Lancaster to Kendal

Cycle Route signThese 2 routes forms part of the National Cycle Network Route 6.
 
The 22 mile route to Kendal begins at Lancaster's Millennium Bridge and uses both off and road paths - including the Lancaster Canal towpath. Stunning views are to be had of both Morecambe Bay and the Kent Estuary, and the route passes through many attractive villages.
 
The Lancaster to Preston route passes through attractive pastoral countryside on the fringes of the Forest of Bowland.

NEW NCN North of England Map

North England NCN map cover
The North of England offers cyclists of all abilities the chance to get up close and personal with the rich landscape and history of the area. NCN routes wind across five National Parks including England's largest - the Lake District.
 
Includes information on the C2C (NCN 7/71); North Sea Cycle Route (NCN1); Trans Pennine trail (NCN 62/65); Morecambe to Grimbsy (NCN 69) as well as the W2W, Yorkshire Dales Cycleway and Lancashire Cycleway.
